Product Description

Heme iron polypeptide is a type of iron. Heme iron polypeptide is made from animal hemoglobin (part of the blood).  In the body, iron becomes a part of hemoglobin and myoglobin. Hemoglobin carries oxygen through your blood to tissues and organs. Myoglobin helps the muscle cells store oxygen. Heme iron polypeptide is used for iron deficiency anemia.
Iron deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia and is also known as sideropenic anemia. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when the dietary intake or absorption of iron is insufficient and hemoglobin, which contains iron, cannot be formed.

Functions of Iron:

  • Iron, as part of hemoglobin, carries oxygen in the blood, and as part of myoglobin it carries oxygen in the muscles
  • As part of certain enzymes, iron is involved in the metabolism and immunity

Indications:
This product is an iron supplement used for low levels of iron in the blood (e.g., due to anemia or lack of iron in the body). Heme iron (blood peptonates) is particularly indicated for those population groups vulnerable to iron deficiency or which have higher iron requirements.

Benefits over non-heme iron supplements:
Iron supplement made from naturally sourced heme iron polypeptide (HIP), is iron derived from bovine hemoglobin. This supplement has these advantages compared to other non-heme iron supplements.
  • Heme Iron supplements are more easily absorbed than iron salts
  • It causes significantly fewer side effects than traditional iron compounds
  • Absorption is approximately 10 times than that of ferrous sulphate
  • Absorption is not influenced by food intake

About Composition:
This iron supplement is made from Heme Iron Polypeptide. It is a naturally sourced from Iron derived from bovine hemoglobin and is highly available for absorption. Heme Iron is readily absorbed throughout the small intestine and is absorbed better than any other form of Iron. This is a mineral that is important nutrient to human life and health.
Iron is a mineral essential for good health. The body uses iron to manufacture hemoglobin, which is the protein found in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. Without an adequate quantity of iron, it may be at risk for iron deficiency anemia, with its accompanying symptoms that include fatigue, dizziness or light-headedness, headache, insomnia, shortness of breath on exertion, and pallor.
Heme Iron Supplement Tablets are an excellent source for helping the body maintains healthy iron levels.

Side Effects:
Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach, and stomach/abdominal cramping may occur. The incidence of these adverse effects is less than that of ionic iron. Iron may cause your stool to turn black, an effect that is not harmful. A very serious allergic reaction to this product is rare. Do not use if you have an allergy to cow products.

Heme Iron Polypeptide Interactions:
Before using heme iron polypeptide, individuals should tell their pharmacist or doctor if using methydopa or other iron-containing products. Iron supplements can decrease the absorption of drugs such as tetracycline antibiotics, penicillamine, cefdinir, chloramphenicol, levothyroxine, and quinolone antibiotics. Therefore, doses of these medications should be spaced as far as possible. This product may interfere with certain laboratory tests (including test for blood in stool) causing false test results. Make sure laboratory personnel and all doctors know a patient is using this drug.

What should I do if I missed a dose?
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as noticed. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume you usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

What should I do in the case of an overdose?
Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children younger than 6 years. Keep this product out of reach of children. If overdose is suspected, contact local poison control centre or emergency room immediately.

For Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
As with all oral iron supplements, consult your physician before taking this during pregnancy or nursing.
